Who Can Participate
Young people ages 14 through 23 are eligible to participate in the Congressional Award Program. Goals are set by participants in partnership with adult advisors.
The Congressional Award
Earn the Congressional Award through service, personal growth, and adventure.
The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young people aged 14-23 who set their own goals and follow through with hours of voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and exploration.
About the Award
The Congressional Award recognizes young people who achieve goals in four program areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration.
Program Areas
Participants earn award hours through:
- Voluntary Public Service
- Personal Development
- Physical Fitness
- Expedition / Exploration
Medals & Recognition
The program awards Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals for higher hour thresholds. Completion is recognized by the U.S. Congress and celebrated with a Congressional Award certificate.

Steps to Earn the Award
Set meaningful goals and track your progress in each of the four program areas.
1. Set Goals
Choose goals that challenge you and reflect your interests in service, growth, fitness, and exploration.
2. Track Your Progress
Log hours, keep records, and review your progress with an adult advisor or mentor.
3. Submit Your Record
When you complete your goals, submit your record to the Congressional Award office for review and certification.
